LONDON — The global projection screen industry has seen a string of product launches, industry honours and distribution updates in recent weeks, with optical performance, motorised flexibility and ambient-light-rejecting (ALR) materials continuing to lead innovation for both home cinema and professional AV markets.

On October 16, VIVIDSTORM, a major maker of motorised projection screens and home cinema systems, was awarded the Innovation Excellence Award at the United Excellence Summit & Gala held at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane. The brand displayed its retractable screen lineup at the event, highlighting designs that hide away when not in use, combining optical ALR layers with quiet motorised hardware to fit modern living spaces. Organisers noted that the company’s work bridges entertainment technology and interior design, responding to growing demand for unobtrusive large-screen setups.

Meanwhile, WUPRO Cinema announced its new Fresnel motorised projection screen range on September 30. The new lineup includes drop-down and floor-rising Fresnel screens for both long-throw and ultra-short-throw (UST) laser projectors. The updated material targets speckle reduction while retaining strong ambient light rejection, giving installers more motorised options beyond traditional fixed-frame Fresnel screens. Full specs and pricing will be released in the coming weeks.

Commercial AV supplier Severtson Screens also made a distribution move this month, appointing Luxury Integrated Technologies as its new representative for the Southeast market. Severtson’s portfolio covers home theatre, auditorium, cinema and immersive venue screens, including its acoustically transparent Broadway Series and large-format SēVision 3D GX screens for professional installations.

Industry analysts point to several clear trends for 2026. ALR and Fresnel materials remain the fastest-growing category, as more consumers pair bright RGB laser projectors with screens that deliver clear images even in daytime rooms. Gaming-focused screens optimised for 4K 120Hz signals, acoustically transparent models for behind-screen speaker layouts, and compact motorised floor-rising screens are also gaining traction. The global projection screen market keeps expanding, fuelled by hybrid meeting spaces, education facilities and the boom in residential home theatre builds.

Market observers say the competition is shifting away from simple white screens toward engineered optical surfaces. As laser projectors become cheaper and more widely adopted, screen material quality is increasingly seen as the key factor separating mediocre projection from cinema-grade picture quality.
